Despite having a far from favourable gate position for moto one,Lee quickly settled into an early 8th position before moving up the leaderboard and earn a strong 4th spot,thus getting his 2009 IMBA European championship campaign off to a very productive start.Along with fellow Brit Matt Porter,Lee then made a blistering getaway in moto two,eventually moving into the lead.Although Matt remained in touch it was Lee who was to take a great win,such was the pace of the leading duo that they finished a massive 24 seconds clear of 3rd placed Dutch lad Ronnie van Rooji. In almost a carbon copy of that moto two clash,Lee again overhauled early leader Matt in the final race at Krasny Dvur.However on this occasion just as Lee was beginning to forge an healthy advantage at the front on his way to an almost certain overall victory,his plugcap was to work loose,thus causing his engine to splutter and allow rival Phil Mercer into pole position. Despite this problem,Lee not only nursed his bike home but also dramatically reduced Mercer's eventual winning margin down to just a very narrow single second.Yes Lee did miss out on the overall win but a superb runners-up spot on the podium was still a fantastic start to his IMBA title quest.
